The Wum Council is an important governing body in the city of Wum, responsible for implementing various policies and managing the financial affairs of the municipality. Recently, councillors gathered at the Wum Town Hall to review and approve the administrative and management accounts for the financial year 2023. This annual rendezvous provides a comprehensive overview of the Council’s income and expenditure, giving an insight into the financial health of the institution and the municipality as a whole.
According to the adopted administrative and management accounts, the total revenue for the 2023 financial year was eight hundred and fifty-nine million, eight hundred and forty thousand, seven hundred and eighty francs. This represents a significant increase over the previous year, with a realisation percentage of 70.15%. This is an impressive achievement given the economic challenges faced by the Wum community in recent years. It is also a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Wum Council Executive, Councillors and Wum Council staff in generating revenue for the community.
The increase in revenue can be attributed to a number of sources, including service charges and government grants. The council has also implemented measures to improve tax collection and reduce revenue leakages, resulting in a significant increase in revenue. This increase in revenue will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the municipality, allowing the council to fund various development projects and provide essential services to the community.
The majority of expenditure has been allocated to essential services such as education, health and road maintenance. The Council has always prioritised the welfare of its citizens and this is reflected in its budget allocation. The remaining funds were used for administrative purposes, including salaries and operational costs. This demonstrates the Council’s commitment to transparency and accountability as it has used the majority of its funds for the benefit of the community.
The adoption of the 2023 Administrative and Management Accounts is a significant milestone for Wum and serves as an example of good financial management. It is evident that the Council has made a concerted effort to increase income, manage expenditure effectively and maintain a healthy financial balance. The adoption of the Wum Council Administrative and Management Accounts for the 2023 financial year not only provides an overview of the financial health of the council, but also serves as a benchmark for future financial planning and decision making.
During the financial year 2023, the voted budget was used to carry out the following projects;
– Purchase of artefacts for Wum Council.
– Construction of a two classroom block at GS Nyio;
– Construction of a two classroom block at GS Tsakendze;
– Construction a block of two classrooms at GS Kwen ;
– Supply of 180 benches, 06 tables and 06 chairs to GS Kwen, GS Tsekendze and GS Nyio;
– Construction of a rest house/restaurant with five rooms, bar and restaurant;
– Construction of 32 market sheds in Wum main market.
– Construction of a box culvert linking Tsakendze – Kefua in Kesu village;
– Construction of an open-air workshop for the production of compressed
bricks;
Construction of a ,8 bridge over the Moung River to G.S. Nyio in Naikom;
– Rehabilitation, construction and extension of the Bangwe Water Supply Scheme;
– Installation of solar street lights on some main streets in Wum town.
– Construction of a bridge over the Kebwe’n River at Zongekwo Overside;
– Rehabilitation of 1 km of road from GTHS Wum Junction to Temkebuagha in Naikom Village;
– Support to three (03) CIGs
Supply of equipment to vulnerable people;
We also lobbied and had timely loans to realise two bridges:
– Construction of a bridge over the Kebwen River crossing to Wajung Village rated at 75%.
– Construction of bridge over Moung river crossing to Ketcha in Naikom village, from GTHS junction rated at 25%.
The adoption of the Administrative and Management Accounts for the financial year 2023 by Wum Council councillors highlights the Council’s financial progress and responsible management. With an increase in revenue and well-managed expenditure, the Council has demonstrated its commitment to the development and welfare of the community.
The Senior Divisional Officer of Menchum, Abdoullahi Aliou, praised the hard work and dedication of the Wum Council Executive, Councillors and staff. Like the local people who attended the meeting along with other political parties, the SDO looks forward to the continued growth and development of the community under the leadership of the Mayor of Wum Council, Dighambong Anthony Mvo.
